The main objective of the Cuba Solar project was building a sustainable cooperation between the two countries on the topic of solar energy use by know-how transfer and joint R&D activities, and by joint development of a large demonstration plant for solar cooling and hot water preparation for a hospital in Cuba by the Austrian and the Cuban Partners.
The Austrian Project partners were S.O.L.I.D and the Energy Institute for Business, the Cuban Partner was Instituto de Refrigeración y Climatización.
In the framework of this project, several seminars were conducted in Cuba, and presentations were held at topical expert conferences. Standardized technical and organisational solutions were elaborated jointly with the Cuban partner, which can serve as a basis for further research and development tasks. These results also highlight necessary innovation steps for the implementation phase.
Besides the scientific co-ordination and co-ordination of know-how-transfer, tasks of the Energy Institute for Business in this project included the development of the scenarios for the evonomic viability analysis taking into account local environmental effects, the development of generally applicable business models including a risk analysis, and the screening of financing opportunities and discussion of the pilot project with international financial institutions in Cuba and Austria.
Cuba Solar was co-financed by Österreichische Froschungsförderungsgesellschaft (FFG) in the framework of the "Beyond Europe" programme.
